Customer Service is something that we experience every day as consumers. Our involvement with customer service is so commonplace that we often overlook it. That is, until we’re not satisfied with a product or someone treats us poorly. Then it gets personal.
We often discuss customer service in terms of delivering a product or service, but our involvement extends far beyond that. If we work for a company, the company is our customer, as we provide a service in exchange for a salary or wages. We should be treating them as such. We are obligated to provide our employer with value, just as our employer is obligated to pay us a wage. Providing good service in all aspects of our lives is something we take for granted. Just as we expect good service from companies we do business with, we are obligated to provide the same service to others under similar circumstances.
Building habits of providing good customer service can extend beyond your employment. The value systems and communication methods are usable everywhere. Gaining a complete understanding through conversation and addressing the problem at hand is a life skill. We were taught the “golden rule” at a young age, but proper understanding only comes with experience. The golden rule I am referencing is a principle of treating others as one would want to be treated.

There is a wealth of material to write about on this subject. Customer Service can vary significantly depending on the individual and their experiences. It also depends on whether they were providing the service or receiving the service. It is a never-ending subject full of interesting topics, issues, and solutions.
